A recent report from Circana Retail Tracking Service revealed the best-selling Star Wars games in the US of these past 29 years, including both physical and digital sales. While some of the best-selling Star Wars games are among the most popular in the series, others may come as a surprise for long-lasting fans.
With over a hundred games spanning from 1983’s arcade Star Wars game to the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws from Massive Entertainment, the franchise features many games for those who would like to explore a galaxy far, far away. From arcade racing games to RPG or FPS, the large range of Star Wars games appeals to all kinds of players and continues to offer new experiences for lovers of this universe. Some of these Star Wars games sold millions of copies worldwide and became fan-favorites, such as Knights of the Old Republic which will get a remake in 2024.
Circana Retail Tracking Service revealed the best-selling Star Wars games in the US by lifetime dollar sales from January 1995 to May 2024. The company’s executive director and video game industry advisor Mat Piscatella shared a post on X to highlight the 10 best-selling Star Wars games, with 2015’s Battlefront taking the lead. In second position comes Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, with 2017’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2 completing the podium.
Star Wars Battlefront And LEGO Star Wars Among The Best-Selling Star Wars Games
Besides the Star Wars: Battlefront games, the LEGO Star Wars franchise is one of the most popular Star Wars game series with four entries among the top 10 best-selling Star Wars games in the US. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga adapted all nine mainline Star Wars movies, with over 300 playable characters and numerous side missions. Besides adapting the films into video games, further entries in the LEGO Star Wars series could explore the stories of popular TV shows such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.
47 years after the release of the first Star Wars movie, George Lucas’ franchise continues to gather a strong fanbase and keeps on inspiring developers to create new games set in its universe. Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars Outlaws is set to release this August and will take place between the events of 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back and 1983’s Return of the Jedi. Quantic Dream’s Star Wars: Eclipse, Saber Interactive’s KOTOR Remake, and Respawn Entertainment’s sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are all under development, with no release date announced yet.
